Fun Facts about Orin: Last year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo did not go nearly like Orin had anticipated or hoped for. He started in 12 th place thinking the only way to go was up. Then in the third round, disaster struck. He broke his thumb and was out for the remainder of the championship event. He dropped to 14 th in the world standings and left Las Vegas in his rearview mirror. At 32 he knows that there are more bucking horses in his past than in his future. He’s already ridden 83 in the Thomas and Mack Arena. However he is far from being done. His competitive nature and love of riding bareback horses saw him return to the arena at Rodeo Houston last March. He had been on some horses preparing and it paid off. After riding that first horse, he was first in the round and had earned $2,500. He worked hard to get back to championship form and proved to himself and the rest of the world he was there when he won the Ponoka Stampede in his home country in July. Two weeks later, he won the title at California Rodeo Salinas. Now he is entering his ninth NFR in sixth place. Originally from Manitoba where his family ranches, Orin came to the U.S. to compete and get an education. He won college titles for the College of Southern Idaho and then Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Then he got married and he and his wife, Alexa, now make their home in Nebraska.
