Taci Bettis

Taci Bettis – Round Top, Texas ($103,692)
2-time WNFR qualifier

Last year was a year filled with new experiences for Taci Bettis and each of those experiences was preparation for an even better 2018.

Bettis has regular season earnings of $103,692 and is headed to her second Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in sixth place. That is two places better and about $2,500 more than a year ago.

Along with a supportive husband, a mother who fostered her love for horses and hauled her all over Texas to rodeos, Taci’s success has been propagated by fellow competitor and mentor Tammy Fisher and a 10-year-old bay gelding that she purchased from Tammy.

Taci spent a lot of time riding with Tammy and took in every drop of knowledge and advice she could get. Tammy had a horse, Bogie is a Smash, that Taci started riding. It wasn’t love at first sight, but more like love at first ride.

That horse, Smash, earned the Rookie of the Year title for Taci last year along with her first trip to Las Vegas after a year of traveling and competing alongside Tammy who just missed qualifying. With Tammy in the alleyway and keeping her role of coach, Taci and Smash had a decent NFR collecting $65,423 in earnings.

A year ago, they climbed their way into the standings. This year, Taci has been in the top 15 from the beginning of the season and never left. Along the way, she got a big win at the Cody Stampede in Wyoming over the Fourth-of-July. That was a rodeo she watched Tammy win last year.

She got to compete at the Calgary Stampede, a rodeo she had never qualified for before and added $8,000 to her season earnings there. She has taken advantage of every opportunity and it has paid off. The biggest of all came when she won RFD TV’s The American last March and while the $100,000 payday didn’t count in the world standings, it certainly made a difference in her year.

Along the way, Taci and Smash have developed a lot of fans. Those fans will be expecting more great things out of the duo in Las Vegas. It will be different for them this year. Tammy has also qualified, so Taci’s coach will be competing right alongside her.
